Acknowledging our Relations with the Land
The land in Ontario is covered by 46 treaties and other agreements, including the One Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, and these agreements were made to peaceably share and care for the land and its resources. Other Indigenous Nations, Europeans, and newcomers, were invited into this covenant in the spirit of respect, peace, and friendship.
As women and gender diverse communities of South Asian and Tamil descent whose ancestors were colonized and recolonized over centuries and as settlers on Turtle Island, we acknowledge and continue to seek permission to co-exist on these lands and share its resources.
