• The South Asian and Tamil Women's Collective (SATWC) is a grassroot, community based organization that focuses on creating spaces for intergenerational connection, growth, and learning for South Asian and Tamil women, girls, and gender diverse communities.

We do this by collaborating and engaging with the community to create events, programming, and conduct research in the following areas: leadership, career development, mental health and well-being. Throughout our design process, we curate spaces for connection, joy and learning within and across communities.

As a grassroots collective, we are continuously growing and evolving in many ways, and our core goal is to support and respond to the emerging needs impacting South Asian and Tamil women, girls, and gender diverse communities.

  • Through our collective work, our vision is to be a shared community for South Asian & Tamil women, girls, and gender diverse communities to come together to learn, grow and build authentic relationships for collective care and well-being.

We hope to do this by preserving our indigenous & cultural traditions, weaving solidarity within South Asian & Tamil communities and across diverse racialized, Black and Indigenous communities.

  • Our core values guide our collective’s practices including the ways in which we collaborate as a group and within communities. These include the following:

    Anti-oppressive and social justice stance

    Cultural knowledges

    Intergenerational connection

    Community care

    Collaboration

We take an anti-oppressive and social justice stance by honouring the intra-diversity of our South Asian and Tamil diaspora and working in partnership and alongside diverse communities to dismantle systems of oppression across gender, gender identity ethnicity, age, race, faith, spirituality, income, sexual orientation, ability, and intersections of identity.

We affirm cultural knowledges through the preservation and engagement of ancestral and cultural assets inclusive of our histories, narratives, stories and traditions.

We lead and create through intergenerational connection to amplify the strengths, wisdoms and relationships that exist within and across our generations.

We believe community care as the foundation of togetherness; its cultivation as key to collective healing and well-being.

We prioritize collaboration to break down silos towards community mobilization in the development of shared resources and change.
