Well-being Conference

In partnership with York Region District School Board, Educators for South Asian Heritage, and Educators for Tamils Student Success, South Asian & Tamil Women’s collective organizes an annual well-being conference for South Asian & Tamil female and non-binary students.

These annual well-being conferences provide students the opportunity to engage with South Asian & Tamil educators, social workers, and community members in mentorship dialogues to help them navigate life experiences in culturally relevant ways. The conference topics and activities focus on mental health and well-being, career development, healthy relationships, and more. Students are provided opportunities to participate in authentic dialogues about identity, receive resources and tools to support their learning and development, and build meaningful connections with youth and adult allies in the community.

Sisterhood Dialogues

One important goal for the South Asian & Tamil Women’s Collective is to weave solidarity within our communities and among diverse communities.  It is only when we work together across communities that we collectively work to identify and address barriers to well-being and success.  Key in this goal is to recognize the many ways in which white supremacy, hate and discrimination have impacted racialized women inclusive of our diverse intersections in identity.

Here is a collection of sisterhood dialogues we have engaged in that affirm our commitment to working collaboratively to unlearn and relearn from diverse communities on how we can continue to weave solidarity.

Pink Ladoo

One of the exciting things about the collective is our ability to partner and plan engaging events with local community leaders and change makers. With pooling our resources and strengths, we created an intimate space to co-host an evening with the creator of Pink Ladoo, Raj Kaur. Our shared goal was to come together to complicate and celebrate South Asian and Tamil femininities and feminisms.

It was an evening filled with beautiful connections and meaningful conversations. We look forward to co-hosting more of these intimate evenings and are always excited to partner and/or support where we can.
